Work has begun on a €12 million upgrade to Cavan Hill Water Treatment Plant, which supplies drinking water to more than 45,000 people across County Louth.
This project follows the success of a 2024 pilot study, which proved highly effective in removing naturally occurring manganese from the water supply. As part of this major upgrade, the new filtration technology will now be installed on a permanent basis.
The investment forms part of Uisce Éireann’s ongoing commitment to improving water infrastructure across County Louth. Once complete, the upgrade will enhance drinking water quality, support continued compliance with drinking water regulations, and provide a more resilient and reliable water supply for homes and businesses throughout the region.
Uisce Éireann prioritised the upgrade following seasonal instances of water discolouration in recent years.

This project is being carried out by Veolia Water Ireland on behalf of Uisce Éireann and works are due to complete in early 2028.
