Gardaí arrested a man following a public order incident involving a knife in Dundalk last night.
The incident occurred at an open car park around 9:30 p.m.
Uniformed Gardaí attended the scene and were supported by members of the Armed Support Unit.
Gardaí said officers engaged with the man in an effort to de-escalate the situation and directed him to drop the knife.
When he did not comply, a member of the Armed Support Unit discharged one round from a 40mm less-lethal device.
Gardaí were then able to disarm and arrest the man.
He is currently being detained at Dundalk Garda Station.
An Garda Síochána said it had no further comment at this time.
