Woman arrested in Kyran Durnin investigation released without charge

A woman arrested in connection with the disappearance and murder of six year old Kyran Durnin has been released without charge.

Gardaí confirmed this evening that a file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The woman, who is in her fifties and known to the child, was arrested at her home in Drogheda on Monday morning and detained for 24 hours.

It is understood detectives questioned her regarding discrepancies in previous statements made to Gardaí about the missing boy.

Gardaí have also completed a second search at a house on Hand Street in Drogheda. It is not known whether any new evidence was discovered during the search.

In a statement issued this evening, the Garda Press Office said:

“A woman aged in her fifties who was arrested in connection with this investigation has since been released without charge.

“A file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Investigations are continuing.”

Kyran was officially reported missing on 30 August last year after Tusla raised serious concerns about his whereabouts and safety.

It later emerged that the child had last been seen alive in the summer of 2022 and there have been no confirmed public sightings of him since.

Gardaí subsequently launched a murder investigation last autumn.

A woman now in her late twenties and a man were previously arrested as part of the investigation. The man later died a number of days after being released from custody.

Kyran’s mother has been living in England for the past several months.
