The Slane Castle 5km Trail Run and Walk will return for its 11th year on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The event will get underway at 9.30am and takes place within the grounds of Slane Castle, with the full 5km route set entirely within the estate. Participants will follow scenic forest trails along the River Boyne, offering a chance to experience one of the region’s most well known landmarks.
The route gives walkers and runners of all levels the opportunity to take part in a relaxed and enjoyable setting, while also taking in the surroundings of Slane Castle, which is known for its concerts and as a filming location for The Traitors Ireland.
Keatings Oil has come on board as the main sponsor for this year’s event, which attracted more than 400 participants in 2025.
The run is organised by the Parents’ Association of St Patrick’s National School in Slane, with support from Meath Local Sports Partnership, Slane Castle and Civil Defence.
The event is the association’s main fundraiser, with proceeds going towards the continued development of outdoor learning spaces at the school.
Alex Mount Charles was thrilled to welcome back the 5km Trail Run/Walk and said how delighted he was to have “supported this fantastic community event since its inception, and looks forward to welcoming all of the runners, joggers and walkers to enjoy the castle grounds this coming May 24th”.
There are t-shirts for the first 200 adults (on the day) and the first 200 U16’s. We also have finishing medals for the first 400 over the line! After race refreshments and yummy home baked goods will be available free of charge to all who support the event.
Race-goers can also avail of parking on the grounds of the castle. Please note that pets are not permitted in the grounds of Slane Castle, and we ask you to please respect this. The route is suitable for all walkers, joggers, runners, and even buggy pushers, regardless of ability or fitness level.
Early bird online registration is €20 for Adults, €10 for Secondary School-aged children, and €5 for Primary School-aged children. Please note that if you register on the morning of the event (from 8-9am) Adults registration is €25. https://eventmaster.ie/event/8jyDH7qTV1
