Lorcan Forde Dunne wins National Silver in standout indoor performance

There was plenty to celebrate on the opening day of the National Indoor Finals, with Lorcan Forde Dunne delivering a standout performance to win silver in the under 19 800 metres.

In a closely fought race, Lorcan produced one of the best runs of his career, setting a new personal best and narrowly missing out on gold. It was a composed and confident performance, following on from his recent success at the National Schools Cross Country and confirming his place among the top young athletes in the country.

Earlier in the day, under 18 athletes Daniel Hanley and Tadhg Forde Dunne both impressed in their 800 metre final. Competing in a strong field, both runners showed determination and came away with new personal bests. Hanley finished in 2.03, with Forde Dunne close behind in 2.06, highlighting their continued progress at National level.

In the under 16 60 metre hurdles, Aoife O’Connor also delivered a strong performance. She progressed through the rounds to reach the semi final, where she finished fifth, just missing out on a place in the final.

Overall, it was a strong day for the club across a number of age groups, with Lorcan’s silver medal performance standing out as a highlight.
