Almost 300 members of the Irish Girl Guides from across the Boann Area gathered at St. Oliver’s Community College in Drogheda to celebrate 100 years of World Thinking Day, a special day marked by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world.
The Boann Area includes guiding units from Drogheda, Duleek, Mosney, Tullyallen, Monasterboice and Clogherhead, bringing together girls and volunteer leaders from across the wider community for a fun filled day of activities celebrating friendship, leadership and global sisterhood.
Each branch enjoyed activities suited to their age group. Ladybirds took part in a lively music session with Clara, Brownies enjoyed a disco and dancing, and Guides participated in energetic drumming workshops. Senior Branch members learned valuable outdoor survival skills during an inspiring session with Ray.
Members of the North East Trefoil Guild also joined the celebration, giving them the opportunity to reconnect with guiding and experience the day’s activities alongside current members.
After a busy day supporting the event, the volunteer leaders finished with a well deserved wellness session led by Andrea O’Grady.
World Thinking Day encourages members of the guiding movement to reflect on the millions of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide and the shared values of friendship, community and leadership.
Boann Area Commissioner Liz Carolan said the event was a wonderful celebration of the guiding community.
It was fantastic to see so many girls and leaders coming together from across the area. Days like this really show the strength of guiding friendships and the opportunities guiding gives girls to learn new skills, build confidence, and have fun together.
The Boann Area leaders would like to thank everyone who helped make the day such a success, including the workshop facilitators, volunteers and the staff of St. Oliver’s Community College for their support.
