Local TD Ged Nash has welcomed news that Louth County Council has applied for €23.9 million in Government funding for the next stage of the Port Access Northern Cross Route.
The funding application relates to Stage 3 of the project, which will involve building a key section of the route that will cross the Dublin to Belfast railway line.
Deputy Nash said he has been closely engaged with the local authority on the project and praised council officials for their work in progressing the application.
He said;
I have remained close to the local authority on this, and I want to thank officials for all of their work and engagement with government department departments on the crucial next phase of the project which will, if and when funding is approved, traverse the Dublin-Belfast rail line.
This application was made to the Housing Activation Office and is for projects that will allow infrastructure to be built to make more land available for housing and necessary amenities.
The road, when completed will also be transformational for the town.
There is an expectation that a decision will be made next month or in May, and I will be doing all I can to make the case to government for this critical funding to be approved.
