Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the N2 near Funshog, Collon, in the early hours of this morning, Saturday, 7 February 2026.
The collision, which involved a car and a pedestrian, occurred shortly after 3am.
The pedestrian, a man aged in his 40s, was treated at the scene before being taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with serious injuries. He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 20s, was not injured.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators attended the scene and carried out a technical examination. The road is expected to reopen shortly.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who was in the area at the time to come forward.
Road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, including dash cam recordings, and who were travelling in the area between 2.40am and 3.20am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
