Motorists are warned that a number of streets in Drogheda town centre will be closed to traffic this evening with the switching on of the Christmas lights.
The event will take place at St Peter’s Plaza, West Street with Santa Claus due to arrive from the North Pole around five thirty pm.
The Gardai said:” This evening we will be assisting with the annual Christmas lights switch on event inDrogheda.
“West Street will be closed from Duke Street to Peter Street from five pm to 8pm. The main event will be at St Peter’s Church and there will also be a large screen in the vicinity of Tesco.
“We ask all patrons to follow the instructions and guidance of Gardai, Marshalls and volunteers for the duration of the event.”
Thousands are expected in the town centre for the first big Christmas event of the year.
There will be Chrtistmas music, school performances, dancing, Christmas characters, a snow globe photo opportunity and much more.
The event organisers Love Drogheda said:” Wrap up, bring the kids and make an evening of it with dinner, a warm drink, or a browse in your favourite local shops. Lets light up Drogheda together.”
