Outdoor Dining Scheme still in early stages of development

There has been much speculation and confusion about the proposed Outdoor Dining Scheme with people anxious to get out and enjoy a meal with friends and restaurants just as anxious to serve them.

But Failte Ireland are saying that, contrary to social media commentary this scheme has not been announced or launched yet as it is “very much in the early stages of development and planning.”

“Fáilte Ireland is in discussions with local government with a view to developing an efficient scheme to support the provision of outdoor dining” Fáilte Ireland spokesperson Suzanne Coogan said.

“The Scheme will supplement the extensive work and programmes already undertaken by local authorities, Fáilte Ireland and wider Government across the country in supporting the hospitality sector in our cities, towns and villages.

“A number of options are being considered to support businesses in the season ahead.

“As infrastructural, licensing and planning challenges exist with the use of outdoor public spaces, funding for individual businesses combined with Local Authority led initiatives are being explored.

“Details have yet to be finalised, however it is planned that all counties will be eligible to apply for funding through this scheme.”

Details will be finalised in the coming weeks.
