Big push on for Drogheda Daffodil Day 2021

This bloody virus has turned everyone’s life upside down. With everything stopped, including work for many thousands of people, we’ve lost all sense of time and routine and we can’t get to see our friends or anyone else for that matter and even if we did everywhere is closed and all events are cancelled.

So it was good to bump into Lizanne Allen in Dyer Street yesterday.

Lizanne has been the driving force behind Drogheda’s Daffodil Day campaigns for the past 34 years and she was out yesterday with fellow campaigner Mary Convery turning Drogheda’s shops, closed though they may be, yellow ahead of Daffodil Day which is on Friday week, March 26 sponsored by Boots Ireland.

Normally Lizanne has an army of volunteers she can call on to sell daffodils and badges in the streets of Drogheda and surrounding areas but, for the second year running, that’s not allowed.

Not allowed either are the various fundraising events such as the annual Daffodil Day Fashion show and the Gold Cup Lunch both of which are looked forward to each year and raise large sums for the Irish Cancer Society.

All of this has obviously had a dire impact on the charity’s fundraising efforts, in fact the national Daffodil Day events were down by €2 Million last year, so that’s why they are calling this year’s Daffodil Day the most important ever.

the Drogheda Daffodil Day Campaign, thanks to the generosity of the people of the area and the hard work of the local volunteers, is usually one of the highest grossing campaigns in the country.

Lizanne and the rest of the Drogheda Daffodil Day Committee are urgently asking everyone to make online donations this year. If you click the link below you will be able to donate specifically to the Drogheda campaign.

Another way you can support this year’s Drogheda Daffodil Day is by entering a special raffle with some very special prizes including a large Dimplex Smart TV. There’s no minimum or maximum price on the tickets but if you’d like to purchase tickets contact Karen Healy on 086 855 7878.
