Housebound citizens must be vaccinated urgently – Nash

Local TD Ged Nash has called on the HSE to ‘make good’ on commitments to provide Covid 19 vaccinations to people who are housebound.

Nash explained that he is working on a number of cases in the area where long-awaited vaccinations have yet to be delivered.

“Those who are housebound and physically and medically unable to leave their own homes are among the most very vulnerable” he said.

“They are being cared for by loved ones who may not have been vaccinated themselves and the fear is that if their health declines necessitating a visit to hospital, they would be very exposed.

“The home vaccination service is being run by the National Ambulance Service and I know that local Emergency Medical Technicians are anxious to get going to fully roll out this essential programme.

“The application process opened on the 13th March and GPs are telling me of their frustrations dealing with the HSE registration process.

“It is overly bureaucratic and the red tape needs to be removed to allow this essential work to be done and urgently.”
