1,000 free grow boxes to be won as part of the Get Ireland Growing initiative
It may be due to the Covid pandemic but there has certainly been a big upsurge of interest in gardening this year. For some that means planting flowers but a growing number of people have discovered the joy of veg.
Drogheda Community Allotments has been a hive of industry for weeks and, despite the coldest April on record with frost every night, signs are good for a bumper crop this year. That’s if the birds, caterpillars, slugs and myriad species of insect allow it!
Over the past 12 months, online searches for organic food has increased by 80%. Food growing is a lever to a healthier and happier, more sustainable world.
To encourage this renewed interest, and to get people across the nation growing their own food, Energia has partnered with not-for-profit social enterprise GIY, and is giving away 1,000 large grow boxes.
The free grow box includes everything you need to start growing your own herbs and vegetables at home, as well as a bag of Irish Wildflower Beebombs which help re-create bee habitats and are vital to help the threatened species survive.
The grow boxes are designed for all living situations whether you are in an apartment or have a garden, everyone can still grow herbs and vegetables.
Energia and GIY will help support you on your seed growing journey this summer with an array of tips and tricks and the newly launched GIY app.
Each grow box includes:
- 5 x seed packs: beetroot, carrot, peas, mixed oriental greens and basil
- 1 x hessian bag of Irish wildflower beebombs (15/bag)
- Compost
- Fibre seed trays
- Rice husk pots
- Get Ireland Growing tips and recipe cards
To be in with a chance of winning one of the 1,000 grow boxes (they’re worth €45 each), all you have to do is fill out a simple registration form at getirelandgrowing.ie to enter the draw.
