“It’s going to be very difficult, but we’ll prepare the best we can” – Tim Clancy.
Drogheda United travel North to Ballybofey tomorrow evening (Friday, May 21st) to face Finn Harps in a fourth versus fifth clash in the Premier Division.
Tim Clancy’s side come into this game having beaten St. Patrick’s Athletic 3-1 at Head in the Game Park last Friday.
A superb free kick from Dane Massey, and a stunning strike from Mark Doyle gave Drogheda a 2-0 lead at half-time.
Substitute Nahum Melvin-Lambert halved the deficit for the Saints on 82 minutes before Jordan Adeyemo sealed the three points with his first goal of the season with two minutes to play.
“Big character shown by the lads. 2-0 up. If you concede at two up, and it goes to 2-1, it can get very edgy” said Tim Clancy.
“Pats had ten minutes left but we showed good character to go on and get a third goal which, with the near misses we’ve had so far this season, it’s good to get over that hoodoo as well.”
When Drogheda faced Finn Harps at Head in the Game Park in April, Karl O’Sullivan’s volley from the edge of the box gave Harps the lead before Mark Doyle equalised from close range six minutes later as the sides shared the points.
“Very difficult game, and Harps have had a really good start to the season, same as ourselves. They’ll be looking at this game for points. Another good result last week against Dundalk, first half they were excellent and then second half they showed grit and determination which they have loads of.
“We know it’s going to be very difficult, but we’ll prepare the best we can, and go up there tomorrow night and hopefully put in another good performance and come away with something positive,” Clancy said.
