New Alzheimer’s Day Care Centre taking shape but final push needed

It’s been a long and sometimes difficult road but finally, thanks to the generosity of the Drogheda people, the new Alzheimer’s Day Care Centre is taking shape.

It is hoped to have it open by the end of the year but before that can happen they are looking for some help from local tradesmen and businesses.

The Drogheda Alzheimer’s branch was founded 25 years ago. Over these years, they have offered day care services and other supports from a number of temporary locations to increasing numbers Alzheimer’s sufferers in the area.

After much work and tremendous local support and generosity, construction work started on a €1 million new permanent day care centre at Greenhills in February this year.

The building is progressing very well, with the structure now in place, windows and underfloor heating installed and everything well on schedule for it to be completed by the end of this year.

“It will be tremendous to see the new centre open in early 2022 and for it to be able to support twice the amount of clients as previously in a modern day care centre.

The Alzheimer’s group continues to fundraise to support the day to day operating costs as well as to be able to complete the building to the very best standard, including a sensory garden and activity areas as well as equipping it to best support our client special needs.

They would be very appreciative of anyone who wants to help such as carpenters and other trades peoples and people with vans to help with the move. There’s plenty of help need as well as help with the gardening when needed.

Among the important fundraiser the group have planned in this their 25th year is their annual Drogheda Camino sponsored walk on July 3rd and their golf classic in Laytown and Bettystown Golf Club on September 17th.
