Suicide counselling charity experiencing huge increase in demand
Registration for SOSAD Ireland’s annual Dawn to Dusk Fundraising Walk is now open.
Last year SOSAD experienced an 80% increase over 2019 in requests for their services from people who were suicidal, self-harming or had suicidal ideation or were suffering with depression or in need of support for bereavement by suicide. They currently provide support to 665 clients a week.
They are asking everyone to join them to help raise awareness about mental health, and hopefully plenty of money, by walking 7km – one kilometre for each office they run.
You can walk any time between 6:30 am to 6:30 pm, on Sunday the 12th of September 2021.
There are 27 venues across Louth, Monaghan, Meath and Cavan where you can collect your registration T shirt, route suggestions and light refreshments.
Whether you want to challenge yourself, take part in the event as a family, or have a few friends together, your support and participation in the Dawn to Dusk event will help SOSAD to keep delivering their life saving service to our community.
Don’t forget to take photos of your walk, and post them on social media using the hashtag #DawnToDusk and tag SOSAD.
SOSAD provides support and services free of charge to people who are struggling with suicidal ideation, self-harming, bereavement, depression, stress and anxiety or if you simply need to talk. If you want to talk, they are always ready to listen.
Since 2007, SOSAD has worked tirelessly in the community to help those in need of support and to know they are not alone on their journey. SOSAD relies solely on donations, generosity of the public, corporate sponsorship and once off grants to fund the lifesaving service.
If you need to talk, SOSAD are there to listen – just call 041 984 8754.
