Work is to begin on a new footpath and cycleway at Seafields in Laytown on Monday next.
Funding for the project was secured last year under the July Stimulus Programme but has taken time to develop due to the sensitive nature of the site.

“This is such an important project for the area. Hundreds of youths train and compete at the pitches at Seafield and this new footpath and cycleway will ensure they can access the area in a safe manner.
“The car park at Laytown underwent an exceptional upgrade in recent years, and parents should now feel confident to be able to drop their children off safe in the knowledge that they will have a secure footpath leading up to the pitches located on the opposite side of the River Nanny.
“I know many people, including my own family, that love to take a walk up along Seafield and on up to Ben Head, and this section of roadway from the bridge to the pitches can be quite dangerous with vehicles accessing the grounds also.
“I am delighted to have worked on yet another safety scheme to provide walking and cycling facilities for East Meath and I will continue to work hard to provide more. Please be patient as the works are completed” Councillor Tolan said.
The project, which will extend the Footpath/Cycleway from the pedestrian bridge to the car park at Seafields, will include new footway and cycleway, kerbing and drainage. It is envisaged that works will take approximately six weeks to complete.
