Last week was a good one for young creatives from Drogheda. On Wednesday last we brought you the story of Drogheda based rapper Offica being voted Male Artist of the Year at the Black and Irish Awards.
Another winner at the awards was 19 year-old Fiona Solano, also from Drogheda, who is a theatre and film student at DkIT and also the co-founder of Created in Eire (CIE), which is a platform for artists from the black and mixed-race community to display their talents to a wider audience both nationally and internationally.
Created in Ireland was voted “Platform of the Year” at the awards night and Fiona said she was absolutely delighted to receive the award.
“I want the best for Ireland, and I want Ireland to be recognised by all other countries around the world and I hope Created in Eire will be the platform to showcase Irish talent to audiences around the world.”
The other co-founder of “Created in Eire” is Michael Abidoye who is 21 years of age and from Wexford but studying for his Bachelor of Business at IT Sligo.
“The reason I started this organization alongside Fiona Solano is because we believe we can push the work and craft of Irish people around the country and also worldwide” he said.
” I always want to be an inspiration to all kids that have lost beloved parent or loved one. That no matter the pain we can go through we can turn it into positive and make our lost one proud.
” I lost my father two years ago and that’s what keeps me going and driving to accomplish more in the Irish scene.
