Call for participants in 2022 Sustainable Development Goal advocate training

Anyone interested in social, environmental, and economic issues both at home and abroad should consider applying for a place on this year’s SDG Advocate Training course organised by the local group Development Perspectives.

This course is led by Saolta and is an innovative Development Education programme geared toward those already operating within the Adult and Community Education Sector.

  • The SDG Advocate Training offers an 8-month blended project approach (online and in-person). Participants will increase their knowledge and understanding of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and identify their role as Active Citizens in the community.
  • The SDG Advocate Training brings together a team of 26 adult educators with different life experience, skills and perspectives to share in the motivation, design and action for a more just and sustainable future.
  • Individual and group Coaching and Mentoring will be provided throughout the journey, to support the design and delivery of informed Action Projects.

Development Perspectives has partnered with AONTAS, Concern Worldwide, Irish Rural Link and the Department of Adult and Community Education at Maynooth University to deliver SAOLTA, a strategic partnership with Irish Aid. Saolta’s goal is “increased accessibility, quality and effectiveness of development education within the adult and community education sector.”

Director of Development Perspectives, Bobby McCormack, said: “Education needs to be transformative in order to be truly effective – this is what we offer through Saolta. We believe that informed and engaged citizens are best placed to address complex social, economic and environmental issues.”

The closing date for applications is the 25th of February 2022. See information and application form at https://www.developmentperspectives.ie/advocate.html

What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) / Global Goals?

In September 2015, world leaders from 193 countries came together to adopt the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs became a framework to guide our social, economic and environmental actions to achieve a sustainable future by 2030. As a result, everyone has a responsibility in making the SDG agenda a reality.
