Another busy and fruitful weekend for Boyne AC

Boyne AC athletes were out in force again last weekend, with juveniles and adults in action in both cross country and on the roads.

Bellurgan Park, Dundalk, was the setting for the annual Kearney and McBride races, hosted by Glenmore AC, and it truly was a real cross country course, complete with hills and muck.

The under sevens got proceedings underway with a 200m fun run, and in the girls race, there were great finishes from cousins Ruby and Millie Winters, while in the boys race, Rowan Byrne finished second, with Rasi Fangerau just behind in third.

The under nines were next to the line, running 500m, with great efforts from Caitlin Hughes in the girls race and from Finbar Fagan and Charlie Cooper in the boys race.

The under 11 girls saw Isabelle Winters take a podium spot, as she ran a strong race to finish in third overall over a tough 1,000m distance, with club mates Cara Fagan and Aoife McCabe running well also.

In the boy’s race, Leyton Byrne gave it his all to finish in seventh place, with Marko Ozolins having a great race, in this his first cross country event.

It was an exciting race from the gun in the girls under thirteen 1,500m, with Dara Ellie Winters running a very tactical race, staying close to the leading pack of three, she kicked for home in the final 300m, opening up a sizeable lead, crossing the finish line first to take a well-earned top spot on the podium.

Also running well in this competitive field were Romane Njuguna, Ellen Boylan, Sadhbh O’Donoghue, Robyn Reilly, Wannita McCabe and Bonnie Hegarty.

Rowan Byrne who came second in the under seven’s race at Bellurgan Park and Rob Fitzgerald who was one of 3,000 runners at the Raheny Five Mile which he finished in 37.11minutes.

In the under 13 boys race, Keelan Byrne ran well over the 1,500m distance, while in the girls race, Ally Fennell pushed hard to finish in an impressive fifth place overall.

The final race of the day saw the senior men take on a gruelling 8k, and as the weather turned, and rain began, the large field of competitors bravely fought through the elements as they raced over five laps of the course, with Boyne ACs Andrew White holding on to the leading pack for the duration of the race, and finishing in fifth overall, and first in the over 40 category.

Also in action on Sunday last, Boyne AC senior Rob Fitzgerald took to the roads to compete in the ever popular Raheny five mile, with over 3,000 competitors taking part, Rob ran a great race to finish in a super time of 37.11mins.
