New road safety measures installed at Sandpit NS

Following a two year campaign, the pupils, staff and Parents Council of Sandpit NS have welcomed the new road safety measures that Louth County Council have installed outside their School.

Sandpit NS is on a busy rural road, and is particularly hazardous during drop off and pick up times. Unfortunately, the School is built on two blind spots that have always been problematic for children and parents attempting to cross the road safely.

Michelle Dunne, Chairperson of the Parents Council, said, “Sandpit N.S. is delighted with the new ramps and a junction box outside the School.

“It is proving very effective in slowing down traffic as it passes the School, therefore keeping the children safer. The School and Parents Council would like to thank Louth County Council and Cllr. Declan Power for their assistance in securing these road safety measures.”

Independent Councillor in Drogheda Rural Declan Power, who has led the charge on this issue since 2019, said, ” I’m delighted that after a tough two-year battle that we finally get the road safety measures for Sandpit NS.

“Louth County Council installed two ramps and signage before Christmas, with a junction box outside the School that completed the works recently.

“I want to commend the work and assistance of Louth County Council with this project and the support and patience of Sandpit NS. This is a great victory for the area and a tremendous victory for Drogheda Rural.

“I have received positive feedback from the parents that I have spoken to and delighted that it has made such a big difference and big impact on the safety and welfare of the children crossing the road.”
