O’Dowd confident permanent driver test centre will be secured

A temporary Driver Test Centre has been operating from the Drogheda Town Football Club in Marian Park for the past couple of years but the lease is up in February 2023 and no arrangements have been made for driver testing in the Drogheda area after that.

However, local TD, Fergus O’Dowd says he’s confident that a permanent site for the Driver Test centre in Drogheda will be secured before February 2023 when the current leasing arrangement with Drogheda Town FC runs out.

O’Dowd said “Despite the Road Safety Authority reaffirming their commitment to provide a permanent driver test centre in Drogheda, we are all aware that the current three year lease at the Drogheda Town site in Marian Park is now in its final year and the RSA have confirmed to me that they do not expect to extend the lease past February of next year.”

“This interim centre has proved to be an effective facility in dealing with local demands and has allowed Drogheda applicants to take tests in familiar surroundings, whilst that is welcome we now need both the RSA and Louth County Council to press forward on a permanent site.

“I have discussed the suitability of local sites with concerned parties and I’m confident a solution will be found.

“I will continue to press for an agreement to be concluded well in advance of the cessation of the current contract as we must have a permanent service for the people of Drogheda to cater for the needs of the community.

O’Dowd added that the RSA also confirmed that the current waiting time for candidates applying for a driving test in Drogheda is 11 weeks.
