Drogheda LGBTQ Group wins top prize at St. Patrick’s Parade

Yesterday’s Drogheda St. Patrick’s Day Parade was a fantastic success which was enjoyed by thousands of people lining the new route which brought participants down Laurence Street and across West Street.

The town was thronged with people eager to get out and cheer on the participants as they paraded through the town in costumes of all the colours of the rainbow.

It was fitting then that the overall winner was from the Drogheda LGBTQ Group (above) who were out in force publicising the forthcoming Pride Week in Drogheda which takes place on the weekend of August fifth, sixth and seventh.

The Runner up prize went to the Love Drogheda Business Improvement District (BID) who have been doing sterling work since 2019 making sure Drogheda is increasingly known for its safe, attractive and welcoming look and feel by all those who work, study, live and spend leisure time in Drogheda.

The prize for the best commercial entry went to Wogan’s Bulid Centre who were the main sponsors of the day and entered a fantastic float with what seemed like hundreds of little builders enjoying the Paddy’s Day craic. (See below).

Runners up in the commercial section were the fun loving people at Scholar’s Townhouse Hotel who went all out this year with a display that included what was probably the first submarine ever to traverse West Street.

The winning community Group of yesterday’s parade was the lads and lassies from the Boyne Rugby club. There were a lot more than 15 of them and if they play as enthusiastically as they sang and shouted yesterday, they are surely an unstoppable force on the pitch.

It is such a pity there was no prize for the most entertaining entry, the Absurdist Pipe Band (as seen on TV last night) would have walked it – even with their huge shoes and their total inabilty to walk in a straight line. They stole the show and win the Drogheda Life special prize for the best craic which we are saving up for. Seeya in the pub Kieran and we’ll negotiate!
