Discover the treasures of Drogheda and County Louth with the new LCQ app

The Drogheda Zone of the Louth Culture Quest, an app-based countywide arts and heritage treasure hunt, goes live this Friday, May 20.

Louth Culture Quest (LCQ) involves audiences travelling around Louth, solving clues set by the app, finding newly commissioned artworks and exploring the heritage and cultural sites of the County as they go.

Over 14 creative practitioners from Co. Louth have been involved in the creation of the project, including Drogheda based artists Els and Declan, Writer Nicola Cassidy, Nebula Innovations, and comedian Joe Rooney.

The project was produced by An Táin Arts Centre in partnership with Louth County Council and is funded by the Arts Council in the Open / Faoin Spéir.

To embark on this futuristic treasure hunt participants must first purchase the LCQ app from the Google Play or the App Store for €4.99.

Then they can begin exploring County Louth, from the Cooley Peninsula to Baltray, tread the towns of Dundalk and Drogheda on foot, armed with their mobile device and guided by the custodian from the future named Lugh, performed by Father Ted’s Joe Rooney.

Audiences will take a journey through time, exploring the heritage sites of County Louth, engaging with newly commissioned pieces of art and changing the course of history.

The County has been split into four zones, North Louth, Dundalk, South Louth and Drogheda. Twenty new artworks by four visual artists have been created specifically for the quest, with five artworks in each zone.

On completion of the quest particiapants can contact An Táin Arts Centre to claim their LCQ Limited Edition reward pin.

“In the eight years since An Táin Arts Centre was founded, this is the most creatively ambitious project we have ever produced” said Director of An Táin Arts Centre, Paul Hayes.

“Bringing together 14 creative practitioners from County Louth, it seamlessly blends visual arts, film, technology and gaming to give people of all ages a unique experience to discover our wonderful county in a truly unique way.”
