The Mill Enterprise Hub has launched a four-day podcast training, aimed at those who are planning to start podcasting from scratch.
Participants will learn how to come up with a theme, find the right target audience, record and edit podcasts using professional equipment, as well as promote and monetise their project. The programme is open to individuals, bloggers, business owners, marketing managers, and anyone who is interested in mastering podcasting as a marketing tool.
Patrick Haughey, MD of Audiobrand and Today FM School of Radio, will be training a small group of participants to give maximum attention to each attendee and ensure all graduates succeed.
Patrick delivers bespoke podcast training programmes for organisations including Independent Newspapers / MediaHuis, The Public Relations Institute of Ireland and Learning Waves Skillnet. He also works with individual company owners and SMEs on content and audio (podcast) strategy.
He has created and produced national radio, TV and digital shows including Today FM’s Last Word with Matt Cooper (11 years), Mario Rosenstock’s Sunday Roast, RTE’s ‘The Big Bite’ with David McWilliams, Ireland Unfiltered with Dion Fanning and All In with AIB on JOE.ie. He has also worked with Anton Savage on several projects.
Training content
Day 1 – GOALS & CONTENT
Duration: 6 hours
- Overview of Industry – popularity of podcasts, key numbers/stats, value of industry / potential to monetise
- Establishing goals, clarity on target audience, what does success look like?
- Finding your format – this will include a workshop where we analyse clips of popular podcasts together, and also start to establish the format that will suit each individual best, based on their strengths.
- Episode structure – powerful intros, creating soundscapes using sound effects and music, optimal episode length.
- 5 steps to launch – title, series description, theme music, cover art, and trailer.
DAY 2 – RECORDING & EDITING
Duration: 6 hours
- Recording & studio equipment
- How to record in various scenarios using different set-ups
- Remote recording – how to achieve high quality sound when you’re not in the room together
- Editing audio – basic editing & tips
- Music and sound effect libraries
DAY 3 – GROWING YOUR AUDIENCE & MONETISING YOUR PODCAST
Duration: 6 hours
- How to publish on Apple, Spotify and all other major platforms
- Creating a publishing plan to effectively promote your podcast
- Video-recording your podcast – equipment, presentation skills, basic editing, green screen use.
- Organic growth – how to create audiograms, slick promo videos, and pull-quote tiles quickly and professionally using software.
- Paid promotion – the best way to spend budget when promoting your show.
- Monetisation – how to make money from your show, and how others are doing it.
- Using Limor to promote your podcast
DAY 4 – REVIEW & FEEDBACK ON PILOT PROJECTS
Duration: 6 hours
- Participants will be asked to create a pilot episode of their series following DAY 3. For DAY 4 they need to have:
- Pilot episode fully produced
- Artwork / podcast logo created
- A clear understanding of their target audience, and a basic marketing strategy to reach them.
- 3 x assets for marketing their podcast (eg audiogram, video, quote memes etc)

The four-day training will be delivered by Patrick in the new Studio 92 at The Mill Enterprise Hub every Tuesday between 21 June and 12 July.
