Our friends at McHugh’s Venue have announce that two of Ireland’s most exciting rock tribute acts will be returning to the legendary Cord Road’s Barrel stage this Christmas and New Year.
On Thursday 29th December are LIGHT YEARS (formerly known as Pearl Jem), who are now festive regulars at McHugh’s at Christmas time. The boys last played here on the same night three years ago and rocked the place to the rafters in front of a frenetic, capacity audience.
This highly acclaimed tribute show is widely regarded as Europe’s No 1 tribute to the Seattle giants, Pearl Jam and the last few years has seen them travel far and wide with regular trips to the UK and across Europe.
As Pearl Jam fans first and foremost, LIGHT YEARS have taken much time and effort to ensure the show is a marker of love and respect to the source. So successful have they been in this task that they came to the attention of the real Pearl Jam last year and a query about the proximity of the name resulted in an amicable solution whereby the boys will in future go under the new name of Light Years…
There is no support at this gig and the doors open at 8pm, and tickets are available from www.Ticketstop.ie

The following Friday, January 6, the gig that all of Drogheda has been waiting for returns when local heroes METALLITIA play one of their rare live shows…
METALLITIA became local and national heroes when they won RTE’s inaugural Reality Rock Show, Karl Spain Wants To Rock, run over 5 weeks on RTE 2, back in 2010, which saw them win a place on the headlining bill for Europe’s top tribute festival Glastonbudget in England.
They also created a little bit of history as the first and only non-Thin Lizzy tribute act to play the annual Vibe for Philo commemorative event in Dublin, staged every 5th January. METALLITIA also gained respect by backing legendary ex-Iron Maiden frontman Paul Di’Anno on his Irish tours.
The self-proclaimed local “hard-rock heroes” are Flash on vocals and guitar, Richie Mc Scrumpy on lead guitar, Paddy Snivel on bass guitar and Jimmy Brennan on drums.
Special guests this year are local alt-rock/acoustic band, Shock Sorrow, featuring talented local songwriter, Keith Caffrey, and exceptional guitar player, Steff Caffrey.
Keith and Steff balance poignant guitars with impassioned vocals and profound lyrics. Their debut EP, The Heart Bleeds, is a brooding and haunting journey through immense grief, dedicated to the memory of Aoife, Keith’s partner and soul mate. Shock Sorrow have recently started taking their material to live audiences and this appearance with Metallitia is another step along the way…
Tickets are on sale at the venue for both gigs at www.ticketstop.ie, doors open at 8pm and big crowds are expected so early attendance on both nights is advised!
