The parkrun concept has seen a huge surge in the number of people running and walking the weekly 5k, with park runs now truly a global phenomenon.
Oldbridge parkrun has steadily grown in numbers since its premier event in 2014, and continues to attract both locals and parkrun ‘tourists’ week on week.
The tough route is one of only a handful of all grass courses in the country, with a challenging short, but steep hill, it would certainly test even the most seasoned of runners.
One such runner is Boyne ACs Andrew White, who on Saturday last, completed his 200th parkrun, while at the same time, finishing 1st overall, in a time of 19.27. Andrew is often seen out on the roads training hard for various distance events, both on the roads and cross country, and is making a good return to form following a long spell out of action.
Andrew also coaches the juvenile members of the club and is always dishing out good advice and encouragement. With his Oldbridge parkrun best time close to 17 minutes, Andrew is sure to keep building on his training and clocking up those parkrun 5ks.
Also in action on Sunday last, five of Boyne ACs senior runners made the short trip to Duleek to take part in the ever popular Duleek and District A.C 5KM Road Race. This fast course made for fast times which saw Catherine Tiernan Bell first home for the club in 21.41. Jack O’Donoghue ran well to finish in 25.18, with clubmate and fellow club captain Rosaleen Byrne crossing the line in 26.51.
Julie Gibson is edging closer to the elusive sub 30 minute mark, as she ran a new personal best time of 30.08, while Joan Cadden ran a great race to finish in 31.56. Membership of Boyne AC is now open for 2023, for both juveniles and adults, and full details can be found on Boyne AC’s Facebook page.
