Callan slams Irish Water for delays impacting thousands of homes

Independent Councillor Kevin Callan has slammed Irish Water for what he refers to as their “shambolic” management of works that are currently underway in Drogheda.

He cited works in Grenhills yesterday, Wednesday 29th March, which were due to take place between 9am and 4pm, yet many homes still have no water at lunchtime today (Thursday).

Traffic chaos caused by the Irish Water works at Greenhills was the least of the worries for many people who have been left with no water in their homes for the past 24 hours.

The Councillor has said that there are thousands of homes still without water.

“The entity that is Irish Water has absolutely no respect for those running homes or businesses” he said, “it has shown total contempt for the people of Drogheda now on a number of occasions.

“This work done in the Greenhills area has not been done to schedule, with extremely poor communication and this is simply intolerable and should not be occurring in Ireland’s largest town.

Padraig Hanly, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann said: “The works are being conducted as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

“However, due to the complex nature and flow of the network, an additional watermain was identified as part of these essential works. There was a further need to interrupt the water supply for longer than previously anticipated.

“We regret the inconvenience caused to customers and would like to assure them that restoring normal water services continues to be a top priority for us. We thank the people of Greenhills for their patience.”

The water is scheduled to return to all properties by 3 pm today, Thursday 30th March, please allow 2-3 hours for water pressure to return to normal.
