McKee welcomes Council commitment on road safety measures in Duleek

Fianna Fail Councillor Stephen McKee has welcomed a commitment from  Meath County Council to start work shortly on the junction at the bottom of Station Road/Main Street, Duleek.

“Meath County Council have confirmed to me in writing that they are currently working on the design of junction improvement works between Station Road and Main Street, Duleek” McKee said.

In their response to a question from Cllr. McKee, the Counci said they had been successful in accessing funding from The Heritage Council to prepare a Heritage Led Regeneration Plan for Duleek under the umbrella of the Historic Towns Initiative and that they will be procuring consultants to progress the drafting of a public realm plan.

“Works will include a new traffic calming table and new traffic lights at the junction which are badly needed. I’m told that the design is nearing completion and the works will go to tender before the end of this month” Cllr, McKee said.

“These works will form part of an overall Duleek Public Realm Plan which will be developed to improve public infrastructure in the village, improve the environment for local business to flourish and enhance the quality of life for local residents.

“It will be important that adequate funding is provided to ensure that any agreed Public Realm Plan can be fully funded and that the work is fully carried out.

“The new road safety and traffic calming works for the bottom of Station Road onto Main Street are very welcome. Traffic calming is badly needed also on the Station Road, on the Longford Road, the Navan Road and out at Duleek Soccer Club at Carranstown.

On the subject of traffic, Cllr. McKee said that there are “far too many HGV’s coming through the village. Long-term, the bypass is critical.”

‘It has been confirmed that there will be consultation amongst the general public and everyone will soon have an opportunity to have their say on the new Public Realm Plan which is exciting news for the area” McKee concluded.
