Drogheda band Modernlove are to play a rare hometown gig in The Crescent Concert Hall on August 19th before heading off on a world tour.
Although they have been around since 2016, Modern Love came to prominence in 2018 when they won the Firestone Battle of the Bands at an early gig in Odd Mollies.
As part of their prize they got to headline the Firestone Music Station stage at Vantastival and they also got a professional recording session and equipment worth €5,000.
They launched their first single a few weeks later and played two stages at Electric Picnic. Their musical journey had begun and it has been gathering pace ever since.
Their new single ‘Shades Of Blue’ came out on August 2nd, and had it’s radio exclusive debut on BBC Radio 1’s Future Alternative which received a fantastic reaction. No doubt they’ll be featuring the new song at a The Crescent gig.
They’ll also be featured in the Irish Sunday Times with an interview in the coming weeks and they have a Dublin show in Collins Barracks on August 25th. Meanwhile, here’s the official video:
Then it’s off to Seattle for the Bumbershoot Festival before coming home and embarking on a world tour in October which will take in Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, London, Brighton, Bristol, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Paris, Chicago, Brooklyn, Washington, Boston, Philadelphia, Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco.
ModernLove describe “Shades of Blue” as a love song that celebrates the small moments you cherish with your partner and the freedom of fully embracing someone.
“It also reflects on the challenges of maintaining a relationship whilst on tour, having no money and making mistakes that leave you wondering if you’re subconsciously not allowing yourself to be happy. Pretty deep. Sonically we wanted to capture that sense of feeling overwhelmed, that all-engulfing sound, so we brought in everything from our softer side and heavier side into one.”
Modern Love comprises of Barry Lally (lead vocal & guitar), Graham Fagan (guitar, synth & vocals), Danny Rooney (bass, synth & vocals) and Cian Mc Cluskey (drums, sounds & vocals). Here’s their shedule for the tour:
