“Stubbornness got me over the line!”
Pictured above is Monasterboice man Kelvin Finegan who completed the Lisbon Marathon yesterday in blistering heat with an impressive time of 3 hours 39 mins and 26 seconds.
“I’m delighted at completing the marathon!” Kelvin gasped at the finish line. “After today I have so much respect for someone doing a Marathon. After 32k it’s a matter of will to get to the end.”
“I was in for 3hours and 30 mins but the heat killed me the last 7/8km. I had stopped a few times I was so tired. I’ve never felt so drained. I had nothing left in me.”
When Finegan was asked how all his training helped him in completing the gruelling run, he said:
“You need to have a plan and train very hard for it. But….my stubbornness got me over the line not my training, especially when your earphones die in the last 5km!”
