Gardaí seize drugs worth over €120,000 in Drogheda

Gardaí attached to the South Louth Divisional Drugs unit have seized drugs worth in excess of €120,000 in Drogheda yesterday evening, Tuesday December 5th, 2023.

During the course of the search, cannabis herb, with a street value of over €120,000 (subject to analysis), was seized. Drug paraphernalia was also seized.

In a follow up search, cannabis with an estimated street value of 2,000 was seized and a man in his late teens was arrested at the scene. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the South Louth District.

All of the suspected drugs will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

This seizure forms part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on 2nd July 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
