The General Manager of Drogheda United Football Club, Hubert Murphy, is to relinquish that post to take up the role of Chief Executive Officer of Drogheda and District Chamber of which he is the current President.
Reflecting on his tenure at Drogheda United FC, Murphy expressed his excitement about the future prospects, stating, “Working with Drogheda United has been an incredible experience. It has a wonderful tradition and history, and with Trivela coming in, the future is very bright.”
As the newly appointed CEO of the Chamber, Murphy is keen to implement a number of new projects aimed at advancing young entrepreneur schemes, boosting diversity and inclusion across the business sector, delivering real change for the town, and enhancing the brand and objectives of the 130-year-old organisation.
“We are lucky to have a special crew at Drogheda Chamber, from the staff to council members, and all are focused on delivering for the area,” Murphy added.
IN a statement issued this morning Drogheda and District Chamber says that it looks forward to the dynamic leadership and vision that Hubert Murphy will bring to his new role as CEO, driving forward the Chamber’s mission to promote economic growth and prosperity in the region.
A new President of Drogheda & District Chamber will be elected in due course.
Reacting to the news, a Drogheda United spokesperson said: “It is with bittersweet feelings Drogheda United announces that Hubert Murphy will be transitioning from his role as General Manager of Drogheda United to assume the position of CEO at Drogheda Chamber of Commerce.
“Hubert has played a pivotal role in the ongoing development of Drogheda United over the past 30 months. His unwavering dedication to the club, its supporters, and the wider community has been truly commendable, and we extend our heartfelt wishes for success in his new position.
Wesley Hill, Executive Director of Drogheda United, said that Hubert has been an absolute pleasure to collaborate with since Trivela joined forces with the club.
“I am deeply grateful for his invaluable support, both personally and professionally. While we are naturally saddened by Hubert’s departure from his full-time role within the club, we have no doubt that he will continue to champion Drogheda United in his new capacity. As a lifelong fan, Hubert will always find a warm welcome on the terraces at every match.”
Reflecting on his time as the Drogheda United General Manager, Hubert said that serving as the General Manager of his hometown club has been a dream come true.
“I have relished every moment” he said. “I hope that I have played a part in shaping a significant chapter in the club’s history, and I eagerly anticipate witnessing its continued growth and success.”
Joint Chairperson Joanna Byrne added, “Hubert’s steadfast leadership has been instrumental in guiding the club through challenging periods, and we are ever grateful for his unwavering dedication and consistency to Drogheda United.”
It has also been revealed today that Wesley Hill will be relocating from Austin, Texas, to Ireland for an extended period this summer. Following Hubert’s departure, his managerial responsibilities will be assumed by Wesley, while plans regarding the future structure of the club’s front office are finalised.
