The 2024 Drogheda Arts Festival opens this Friday 3rd May with a special multi-sensory exhibition by artist Gav Casey.
Launching at the Methodist Church, Laurence Street, the festival, which is sponsored by Louth County Council, brings visual art, music and street theatre events to town over the May Bank holiday weekend up to and including Sunday 5thMay and will feature a series of music performances and street entertainment.
This 2024 Arts Festival has been programmed by local producer and curator Brenda McComeskey who has drawn up a fantastic programme to appeal to all.
The festival will officially open at 7p.m on Friday 3rd May with the Gav Casey exhibition. It will be open to be public again between 12pm and 4p.m on Saturday 4th May in the Methodist Church.
Family Walking Tours will also be held on Saturday 4th May with local storyteller Grainne Rafferty at 11.30am, 2p.m and 4.30p.m. There will be street entertainment for all to enjoy between 1 and 4p.m, organised by LoveDrogheda Bids. At 3.30pm Highlanes Gallery will host the Jazz trio “The Far Flung Trio” who will perform Under Paris Skies, a very special concert infused with Parisian charm! The festival will then move to the Droichead Arts Centre for the world premiere performance of Dereliction by the band Sonic Womb at 8.p.m.
The festival draws to a close on Sunday 5th May with the incredible talents of Irish singer Síomha who will perform at Gerrards Church at 8.p.m, followed by the closing event at Sarsfields with musician and online entertainer Garron Noone at 10p.m.
The Drogheda Arts Festival was originally set up by the Drogheda Borough Council and is the only multi-disciplinary festival in the county. It has been managed over the years by a group of local volunteers from the arts and culture sector in Drogheda and its environs and has been funded by Louth County Council through the Arts Office with additional support by the Arts Council of Ireland.
