€3m for Narrow Water Bridge but zero for PANCR incredible – Callan

Councillor Kevin Callan has said that he finds the announcement of €3million for the Narrow Water Bridge in North Louth “absolutely incredible and disappointing” when the Government has still not provided funding for the Northern Cross Route in Drogheda.

“The Minister for Housing has not addressed the elephant in the room” the Independent Councillor said.

“…the fact that the cross Route was not successful in its application and that no other funding is being made available in the meantime”

“We now have the Taoiseach Micheál Martin announcing €3m in funding from the Shared Island Fund to progress work on the Narrow Water Bridge which will link the Mourne Mountains and Cooley peninsula.

He says that this is a failure by government and its local representatives to push the Drogheda project which is vital for housing, vital for employment and the development of our town.

“Tourism and cross border tourism is extremely important but the development of Drogheda and its expansion is more important and should be for government representatives based in Drogheda” Callan said.
