Bridie McIvor gets started on her pandemic story for the DDS4OP competition.
There is no Positive Ageing week this year but the good people at Drogheda and District Support for Older People would still like to mark the event so they’ve come up with the idea of running a writing competition for people over the age of 65.
“We would like people to submit in writing their thoughts, feeling, experiences of lock down, how their lives have changed because of Covid 19 and anything else associated with living through the past turbulent six months” said DDS4OP Dave Turner said.
“People who feel they cannot write or find it difficult, could of course, dictate their story to a family member who could submit it on their behalf.
“The entry must be a maximum of 500 words and will be judged by a panel of five appropriate independent people. The six stories judged to be the best will each receive a €100 voucher from Marks & Spencers. There will also be prizes for the ten runners up.”

The first 50 entries will each receive a free personal emergency safety alarm.
Entries can be submitted by Email, posted, social media or dropped into the DDS4OP office. The competition will be open until November 30th 2020.
“If we do have enough entries there may be an opportunity to produce a book which would be a permanent historical record of people’s thoughts and experiences during this extraordinary global pandemic” said Dave.
So, if you’re over 65, get writing and send your entry to:
