Tullyallen based Sinn Féin Councillor, Eric Donovan.
Sinn Féin Councillor Eric Donovan has said that the discoloured water in parts of Tullyallen is unfit to wash in let alone cook with or drink.
“The issue of discolouration has been on-going for weeks now with practically no information coming from Uisce Éireann” Cllr Donovan said.
“I contacted Uisce Éireann last week and they have committed to coming out and flushing the whole area in the next few days. They asked if there was any major works happening in the area that could be contaminating the water but apart from some drainage works back in October, nothing of note has been taking place so hopefully a good flush of the pipes will sort the problem out.”
A number of residents from different areas around Tullyallen have contacted Cllr Donovan. “I have had people on to me saying they can’t even shower in their own house because the water is so unclean and they have to visit friends or relatives to just wash.

"People are purchasing water to wash their teeth and to drink but think of dishwashers or washing machines. The water just isn’t clean. I even had one resident who had a number of house plants die and they believe it was the fault of the water.”
Cllr Donovan who has two young children at home said “I can only imagine the extra work it takes to make up a baby’s bottle or to give them a bath in the evening if you don’t have fresh running water. It’s just not good enough in this day and age.”
The areas affected are: Gleann Álainn, Lavin Park, Allenwood, Burton Hall, Ardá Raith Wood, Townley Manor, Cnoc na Gréine, Collon Road and Moorecourt and the wider Tullyallen area.
