Eileen McGuirk before and after her charity head shave.
It was a case of “hair we go, hair we go, hair we go ” in the McGuirk household in Rathmullen Park recently when 67 year-old grandmother of five Eileen Mc Guirk decided to get her head shaved to raise some money for the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre.
Eileen told Drogheda Life that she decided to raise some money for the Gary Kelly Centre because she has a nephew who has cancer and several friends also.
“I was wondering what I could do to raise some money and then I thought sure I’m not going anywhere at the moment and the weather is so nice, what hair do I need?"
Eileen has five grandchildren and “another on the way” but it was her daughter Ciara who she got to give her hair the chop.

“It was a bit of fun and we raised €1400 for the Gary Kelly Centre, so I'm delighted” Eileen said.
Ciara said that she and the whole family are “super proud “of Eileen who showed no fear as she got the scissors got snipping at her mother’s hair.
“She loves her hair and her best friend Ann who normally does it has given the seal of approval and has promised to give it a new colour when it starts to grow back. Pink or purple, we haven’t decided yet!”
