Temporary driving test centre to open at Marian Park shortly

Front Page

For many years learner drivers in Drogheda have been unable to do their driving test on the roads they are familiar with in their home town due to the lack of a driver test centre in the town.

The campaign to have a permanent driving test centre in Drogheda has been ongoing for many years and is now, thankfully nearing fruition.

Two sites are no under consideration for the permanent centre but this week the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has announced that they in tend to open an Interim Driving Test Centre at Drogheda Town Football Club, Marian Park, Drogheda, Co, Louth. A92EY49.

There will be two Driver Testers in operation at the centre and the RSA are planning towards opening it on the 8th February 2021.

“We are starting to engage with Approved Driving Instructors and Test Candidates in the area to start the testing and scheduling process” an RSA official told local TD Fergus O’Dowd who has been campaigning on the issue.

“We are working at present with the club officials to have the physical facility ready.

Deputy O’Dowd said “The delays to date have been completely unacceptable, but finally we have some good news in sight as we should have Drogheda residents taking tests locally in the coming months.

“I continue to campaign on this issue as I have always believed that Drogheda residents should not have to take their tests in unfamiliar surroundings in what is already a very stressful day.”
