Sunshine, horses and high fashion at Bellewstown

Front Page

Bellewstown Races just gets better and better. For many of the thousands of punters in attendance it’s not the racing and the chance to win a few bob that draws them up the hill of Crockofatha but the sheer entertainment value that any great social event can give.

Meeting old friends, enjoying the chat and the craic and sharing “inside knowledge” on the horses and then cheering them home, it’s what horse racing is all about. But the atmosphere at Bellewstown is always that bit more special.

Not knowing a thing about horse racing doesn’t stop anyone enjoying Bellewstown – get on the right horse and he’ll transport you to a very happy place. For many it’s all about the style, especially on Ladies Day and the Best Dressed Lady competition.

Some of the ladies really pushed the boat out, talk about putting on the style! It’s rude to stare but these dresses just scream “LOOK AT ME!”

The judges, Lorraine Keane and “Best Dressed Ambassador” Dawn Finnegan of Dawn L.A Blog had their work cut out for them but Drogheda woman Eimear Cassidy was a deserving winner of the fabulous prize of a €3,000 Shopping Spree in Scotch Hall Shopping Centre.

Runner-up Maksuda Akhter won a €500 voucher for Fuschia Make Up while, in third place, Mary O'Halloran won a stay in Trump International Doonbeg.

The best Dressed Male was Neil Cameron who won a €250 voucher for Chris Curtis Menswear while second placed Derek Montgomery won an overnight stay in Tankardstown House.

Third in the Dressed Male competition were James & Mark Campbell who won an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast in CityNorth Hotel and Conference Centre while the best dressed couple, Declan and Gemma McDonagh won a sty in Mount Falcon Estate with dinner and breakfast.

There was of course a full card of horse racing but we know even less about that than we do fashion so see the racing pages of your favourite newspaper!
