Everyone has at least one story to tell about their life experiences. It is through sharing our stories that we get to really know each other, make friends and learn about the world we share with others.
Storytelling is a huge part of the Irish culture and, on Thursday August 18th, the people of Drogheda are being encouraged to share their true life stories in front of an intimate audience at the Birdcage Bar which is upstairs at The Grey Goose in West Street. Doors open at 7:30pm.
The Story Slam is based on The Moth from New York which has been encouraging people to tell their stories for 25 years. It is a storytelling competition where participants entertain a live audience with their own true life stories within a time limit of 7 minutes.
“With restrictions lifted and people coming back to life, it seems a great time for us all to start communicating again and sharing our life experiences” explains the organiser of the event, Joanne Ryan.

“We all have a true life story that we can share. Your story could be a heart breaking experience, a strange coincidence or a challenge you’ve overcome that you want to share with others.
“True stories can be stranger and more entertaining than fiction and we hope to have a wide range of experiences for listeners to enjoy”.
While the evening is ultimately an entertainment event, there will be an element of competition. Audience members will be able to vote for their favourite story of the evening and Story Slam winners will win a €25 Shop Local Voucher and a donation to a charity of their choice.
Master Storyteller Grainne Rafferty is the MC for this event taking place in the cosy setting of The Birdcage bar. Storytellers are advised to register their story in advance.
