The annual St. Mary’s Parish Golf Classic and Prize-Draw took place on Friday last at Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club as part of the schedule of events in aid of the Church redevelopment fund.
Thirty teams registered to compete in the St. Mary’s Parish Golf Classic, which took place at Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club. On arrival each team was greeted by the Parish Priests Fr. Phil Gaffney, Fr. Fergal Cummins, and the organiser and chair of the fundraising committee, Joe Harlin. Team members received their scorecards and a goodie bag (kindly sponsored by Joe Stafford’s delicatessen and Glanbia). Despite a chilly start, the weather conditions and greens were superb.
The sun did make an appearance later in the afternoon. Players competed in three additional competitions; Nearest to Pin and Longest Drive competitions (Ladies and Gents). Each team was treated to a delicious meal in the clubhouse on completion of the course.
Event organiser, Joe Harlin, and committee member Terry Brady, made careful calculations on all the scorecards and a presentation was held in the Gin Parlour at the Black Bull Inn that evening. Joe began by thanking all the members and staff of the L&B Golf Club for truly pulling out all the stops and creating another memorable day’s golfing. He especially thanked the Head Chef. Damian Borusiewicz, Scott Kirkpatrick the PGA Professional, Head Greenkeeper Stephen Hoey, and Captains Declan Smyth and Phil Rooney for their considerable generosity and hospitality. Fr.Phil rounded off thanking the incredibly generous sponsors, team members, committee staff , the ladies in the parish office Cora, Ursula and Margaret, and volunteers involved in organising the event. Finger food platters were served, sponsored by the Black Bull Inn and RussellConsult.com.
