Junior members of Boyne who AC are not happy with Louth County Council after they doubled the charge for use of the Lourdes Stadium.
Local sports clubs are annoyed and disappointed with Louth County Council after being told that fees for the use of the Lourdes Stadium have been increased by 100%, from €20 per hour to €40, effective from 5th October 2020.
This doubling of the fee has caused much consternation among the town's athletics clubs, especially those with large junior sections, as it comes at a time when all fundraising activities that clubs normally engage in are off limits due to Covid-19.
A case in point is Boyne Athletic Club whose spokesperson said this could not have come at a worse time with all fundraising options cancelled for this year, meaning that the club has no surplus income.
“With registration fees already paid for the year by members, and fees maintained at a low cost based on outgoings prior to this new increase, we do not believe it is fair to increase the cost of membership of our club in order to meet this demand” said the spokesperson.

“At a time when everyone is feeling the effects of this pandemic, and when outdoor exercise is one of the few options left to people at the moment, we in Boyne AC feel that this massive increase in cost is unfair and disproportionate given the current climate.
“We plan to object to this increase and would ask for your support in our campaign. Anyone who may have any ideas or suggestions we would welcome them.”
