Great support for Slane Community Centre fundraising campaign

The Slane Community Centre Committee’s Monster Draw with over €70,000 worth of prizes has been the source of great excitement since it was launched in October 2017.

The draw received fantastic support from the local community in Slane, the hinterland extending to Drogheda and Navan and throughout the country using an online ticket purchasing scheme. It built on the recent successful application to the Sports Capital Grant where the Slane Community Centre was awarded almost €90,000, the third highest award in Meath.

The winning tickets were drawn on Saturday 24th February 2018 before a very excited packed audience in the Function Room of Lynch’s Bar on Main St in Slane. Entertainment on the night was provided by The Chapel Street Band and former Rathkenny Revels veteran Tom Kerrigan was MC.

Local Peace Commissioner Kevin Macken acted as Independent Observer and ensured that the Draw was run properly and the winners were announced to great excitement and are as follows:

The development of a Community Centre is the biggest capital project undertaken by a voluntary group in Slane and will be a valuable facility available to all local groups. In recent years there have been great developments in Slane.

The strategic development of the village has been led by the Slane Community Forum which is the umbrella group for 35 voluntary and business groups. These efforts have been recognised when the Slane Community was awarded the top Community Award for County Meath and also received the 32-county, Pride of Place, Tourism award.

Maeve Carbin, chair of the Community Centre Committee said: ‘We are delighted with the response to the Community Centre Monster Draw – the support we have received from the local community and businesses has been overwhelming.

“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Draw by buying and selling tickets and sponsoring prizes. Congratulations to all of the lucky winners but of course the big winner is the community here in Slane!

“Thanks to the great success of this Draw, we are all set to start building works on the new Community Centre this summer.’

The top three winners were in Tadg Riordan Motors in Ashbourne earlier today (27th February) to receive their prizes (see photo).
