Drogheda Homeless Aid has announced with great regret that its recently appointed Chief Executive Officer is leaving the organisation to take up a senior position with a national charity.

Shane Kelly took up the position with the Drogheda-based homelessness charity in December last but in the past few days he informed the board that he was tendering his resignation as CEO, having accepted a new position with another organisation.

He said that he was doing so with a very heavy heart and that his decision had not been made lightly because he had found his time at DHA to be deeply meaningful and rewarding and “I leave with immense pride in the work we have done together”.

“Though my time with DHA has been relatively short, I have worked with all my energy and passion to help strengthen and improve the organisation, always guided by the values and mission at its heart”.

Mr Kelly expressed his deepest respect and gratitude to the board for its guidance, trust and shared commitment to DHA’s mission.

“It has been a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated team, every member of staff, every volunteer and every supporter and indeed the clients, each playing a vital role in changing lives” he said.

“I genuinely believe in the importance of the work DHA does and it has been an honour to contribute to it. I will always carry this experience with me and I hope to stay in touch with you all.”

Mr Kelly’s final working day at DHA will be Friday 30th May but he will be with the organisation when it holds its big fundraising sleepout on 23rd May.

Paul Murphy, Chairperson of Drogheda Homeless Aid said that while the organisation was extremely sorry to lose its CEO, it nevertheless wished him well in his new position as CEO of a national voluntary organisation.

“His recruitment to that organisation is a tribute to Shane’s very considerable organisational and leadership skills. He has certainly made his mark on the organisation in the short time he has served as our CEO and he leaves it as a stronger and more energetic body. The board of DHA and the staff extend our very best good wishes to him in the future.”
