The National Sandcastle Competition is normally held on Bettystown Beach but this year it is going virtual because of Covid19. Entrants are being asked to build their creations on any beach in Ireland and send video or photos to the competiton organisers.

Since its inception in 2003 the National Sandcastle and Sculpture Competition on Bettystown Beach has grown to be one of the favourite family events of the year.

It was the brainchild of local resident Dick O Reilly whose dream was to promote the coastal area of County Meath as a fantastic natural amenity for all to appreciate and enjoy.

All you have to do to enter this year is to grab your bucket and spade and start being creative! Don’t forget your sun cream!

Build your castle or sculpture on any beach in Ireland between July 31 and September 5, take photos or video of it and email them to meatheastsands@gmail.com. Include: Your name, category, beach location, title of your piece. There are two categories: “Under 14” and “Family”.
