Drogheda motor dealers adopt road safety charter

With just two weeks to go until the 14th Annual Drogheda Motor Show, excitement is building for what promises to be the most impactful event yet.

Taking place on Saturday, 12th October, on Laurence Street, this year’s show will bring together nine local motor dealers, showcasing over 70 new vehicles across 20 top brands. The event is free to attend, offering something for all ages, from family-friendly entertainment to cutting-edge automotive technology.

Road safety takes centre stage

A key highlight of the show will be its focus on promoting safer driving through smarter technology. Following a recent meeting in Drogheda which was attended by national, regional, and local stakeholders, the local motor dealers unanimously adopted the Drogheda Motor Dealers Road Safety Charter which outlines five key commitments to improving road safety throughout the year, including promoting safety technologies during test drives and engaging customers with road safety education.

Speaking at the meeting, Jonathan Meade, President of SIMI (Society of the Irish Motor Industry), emphasised the critical role of local dealers in encouraging and promoting responsible driving habits: “The Drogheda Motor Show is not just an opportunity to showcase new vehicles, but a platform for educating the public on how modern automotive technology can enhance road safety” he said. “This charter demonstrates the dealers' commitment to actively promoting safer driving in our community.”

“The partnership between local motor dealers and road safety organisations is critical in driving home the message of responsible driving. This show, with its strong focus on safety, is a great example of how businesses can actively contribute to the safety of our roads,” said Sarah O’Connor, Director of External Affairs at the Road Safety Authority.

Representing the local motor dealers, Robert Doran of Jack Doran Motors commented:
“As dealers, we have a unique opportunity to engage with drivers directly. Through this charter, we are taking responsibility to promote safe driving, not just through education, but by demonstrating the incredible safety features available in today’s vehicles.”

Garda Superintendent John Callanan praised the initiative, stating: “This is a highly commendable initiative, and we at An Garda Síochána are fully supportive. We look forward to working closely with the local motor dealers and community to enhance road safety going forward.”

Entertainment for the Whole Family

Alongside the focus on road safety, this year’s event will offer a range of family-friendly entertainment, including cookery demonstrations by celebrity chef Tara Walker, powered by Flogas Ireland, live music by The Victory Dolls, and magical performances by Martin the Magician. Love Drogheda has also partnered with the event to provide face painting and balloon modelling, while Kidkast will host dance performances.

Children can also get involved in the Schools Challenge, where primary school students are invited to design a ‘Super Safe Cyber Car,’ with prizes awarded for the best entries.
