Rita and Mick’s Christmas house raises €1,725 for Palliative Care

Front Page

The Giblin's house at Westcourt all lit up for Christmas.

At Christmas time for the past 13 years Mick and Rita Giblin have been raising money for the Palliative Care Service at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital by decorating their home at Westcourt.

Decorating is not a strong enough word to describe the Giblin’s endeavours though, they totally transform their home, inside and out, with lights and Christmas trees and snowmen and reindeers. Anything Christmassy you can think of they have it!

In 2017 the Giblins were runners up in Energia Ireland’s “Most Christmassy Home” competition.

Although there were no prizes for the Giblin’s this year they managed, thanks to the generosity of their friends and neighbours, to raise an amazing total of €1,725.

“People are so generous” Rita told Drogheda Life, “and we are so grateful to them. This year’s proceeds brings the amount we have raise for Palliative Care to over €15,000 and we’re just delighted!

Rita and Mick first became aware of the invaluable work that the Palliative Care team do when Rita’s mother Rose was going through the last stages of cancer.

They were so impressed and thankful that they swore they would do what they could to help.

Well done to you both, you are helping to fund a service that swings into action at a very raw and emotional time in people’s lives.
