Renowned Scottish artist returns to Drogheda

Front Page

"Here Today, Gone Tomorrow" by Ryan Mutter.

The Drogheda-based Amergin Artist's co-operative, comprising of 20 fine artist and seven crafters, are to host an exhibition by internationally renowned Scottish artist, Ryan Mutter from the 4th October to 12th.

This will be a return to familiar territory for Mutter as he exhibited at the Amergin Gallery at Southgate Shopping Centre in June 2017 following a stint at the Irish Maritime Festival.

He has a formidable reputation as a powerful painter of Industrial and Maritime subjects and has won many international awards for his work

Ryan’s inspiration comes from Britain’s industrial heritage and the connection between man and the sea.    In Glasgow alone shipbuilding provided work for 70,000 men in more than 50 ship yards, which were spread along 11 miles of quayside.   Today the yards sit empty, as shadow of their former selves.

This is what drives Ryan’s art, he looks to capture and remind people of how important this work force once was and its contribution to the development of the modern world.

Ryan has been greatly influenced by artists like,  L.S. Lowry, Frank Brangwyn, George Bellows, Edward Hopper, Claude Monet, Sir Muirhead Bone, Joseph Mallord, and William Turner.   These influences can be seen in his work.

Eugenia Whelan of Amergin Artist's Co-Op said they are delighted to be in a position to offer this wonderful exhibition to the community
