June is Pride month, a time to celebrate diversity and honour the LGBTQ+ community. As in previous years Louth County Council has taken a step towards inclusivity and equality by raising the pride rainbow flag at their offices on Fair Street.
This simple ceremony was carried out by Peter James Nugent, Manager of Louth Meath and Balbriggan LGBT Support Group, and Paul Maguire, a staff member at Louth County Council.
“This symbolic act holds a special significance for the LGBTQ+ community and has received a positive response from the local community” Mr. Nugent said .
“The pride flag, also known as the rainbow flag, has been a symbol of the LGBTQ+ community since its creation in 1978 by American artist and graphic designer Gilbert Baker. It represents diversity, inclusivity, and equality for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

“The flag is raised every year during Pride month to celebrate the community's progress and to support their ongoing fight for equal rights. The raising of the pride flag at the Louth County building is a powerful and progressive step for the town.”
“It sends a message of acceptance and support to the LGBTQ+ community and shows that the local authorities recognize and value the community's presence” said Peter James Nugent, who is also running in the upcoming local elections.
Nugent has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and has made it his mission to support and uplift the community in any way possible.
“Let us celebrate this historic moment and continue to strive for a brighter and more inclusive future. Happy Pride Month!” said Nugent.
